Climate and Soil

• Climate: Warm and dry weather is ideal.

Land Preparation

• Perform one deep ploughing.
• Follow with 23 harrowings or ploughings to prepare a fine seedbed.

Seed Rate and Sowing

• Seed rate: 500600 grams per acre.
• Small dark brown seeds; approximately 900 seeds per 50 grams.
• Prepare beds 1.52 feet wide.
• Sow two rows per bed, keeping 1 foot spacing between rows.

Weed, Insect and Disease Management

Weed Control

• Apply Pendimethalin 30 EC @ 1 litre per acre as a pre-emergence herbicide, followed by timely weeding and interculture.

Major Insect Pests

• Aphids, Thrips and Whiteflies: Control with Imidacloprid, Fipronil, or Neem Oil.
• Fruit Fly: Install pheromone traps and spray Solomon (Beta-Cyfluthrin 8.49% + Imidacloprid 19.81% OD) @ 1 ml per litre of water.

Major Diseases

• Powdery Mildew/Downy Mildew: Spray Sulphur 80% WDG @ 2 g per litre of water, or use Mancozeb + Metalaxyl or Chlorothalonil.
